Let it snow!

Postby Gregory on Tue Dec 09, 2008 2:24 pm

Well, it may not be the first snowfall of the season, but it sure is the snowiest one. Spent some time digging my car out and moving it which was alot of fun. I took a holiday today which was kinda of an ESP moment as I did not know about the coming snowfall when I requested it. I love this time of year.

I think I ran into the first of it for the season in western Virginia this year, but not anything substantial til I was up near Cleveland a few weeks later. Of course here in Atlanta they're ready to pounce on every carton of milk and loaf of bread at the first sign of a couple flurries. I think the last time Georgia saw any major snowfall was the last ice age... then again they still talk about the "Blizzard of 91" here like three inches is something to get excited about.

Yeah we were lucky, everyone around us got 10 inches but we got only four. But city plows are keen on making sure your car is sufficiently buried before moving on. I guess to southern states 3 inches is something to talk about. But we start talking when it gets over a foot before any of it is shuffled around.

Speaking of the devil...

It snowed tonight.

We had a lil snowball fight. My brother hit me in the forehead, but I got him back...in the eye.

I haven't gotten to see snow often so far in my life. This is more than the snow on Christmas Eve 2004 or the before Christmas flurry when I was in eighth grade. The teachers canceled afternoon classes so everyone could be out in it. The most I've ever seen in Houston was in 89. Houston was shut down for three days with three inches of snow. The most snow I've ever seen period was vacation in Colorado and that was in June in the mountains of 85. And finally, the first time I ever saw snow was in 83 when we were living in Liberty. It snowed like it did tonight and I built a lil snowman from the snow on the car. I wanted to keep him so I put him in the freezer and he turned into a sheet of ice. That's the only snowman I've ever built. I would love to one day build a big one bigger than me.

Thus concludes my history with snow as of now.

Wonder if it'll snow in Atlanta by Friday then. Temperature has been rising here since last night but going to drop this afternoon as that system moves in. So far its just been raining for the last twenty-four hours.

Think the most snow I've seen was when I lived near Buffalo. Never much more than four or five feet in North Dakota, though I've seen it drift over ten feet before there. I kind of miss it sometimes honestly, winter being my favourite season and Georgia winters not being very winterish at all.

Well Sonya you can visit up here and I guarentee you you'll be able to make a snowman taller than you. You may even see some. Seriously, bring your family. I can make some arrangements.

When I was a kid we used to roll snow boulders. The tradition started when we were making a snowman but we had so much fun rolling the base we just kept rolling and soon enough we had several kids rolling the boulder till it gets pretty damn huge, way over our heads.

I'm sure the opportunity to build a snowman will present itself in the future.

Your Weather Girl says she'll try to send snow your way, My Lord. I'll have some words with Mother Nature. Then Atlanta can go into an even bigger panic.

Anyone see the full Moon tonight? It looks almost 15% bigger and 30% brighter since it's in perigee. It's been 15 years since the Moon was this close to the Earth and 50 years since it was full and this close to Earth. The Moon won't be this close again til November 14, 2016. Also, the Geminid Meteor Shower is happening through the 14th, but the bright Moon will cut the amount of "shooting stars" one can see.

Yes indeed with Bonnie. She's part of that portion of the human race that's affected by it. I think it's all in the head but i've seen alot of cases to make me wonder if something like that is possible.

Well, the Moon effects the tides and throws off nocturnal critters when it's full and so bright. I've read how there is a correlation between the Moon's cycle and other animals. However, we humans have a more highly developed mind. So even if the Moon does effect us, weather it's all in our minds or not, we should each know how so we can cope/discipline ourselves. That's the way it should be in the first place...criminals have blamed the Moon for their actions...x.x'' I'm going off on a tangent.

Thus the origin of the words lunacy and lunatic. I do not have any hard evidence but its held as truth that EMS and police run more calls on a night of a full moon than on others.

That was the tangent I was likely headed on, My Devious One.

You know we got this word from the French. If it wasn't for them the Moon wouldn't be associated with insanity.

The original word lunatic was borrowed from Old French in the 1300s spelled lunatyke meaning insane. It came from the Latin lunaticus `moon-struck,' from luna `moon.' There's another Old French word lunatique that means moody, but I don't know much about it's etymology.

Haha, leave it to the French. Though I wonder if in the future we start colonizing the moon that it ends up just being one big asylum for the insane.

Don't even say "hello" do you? :þ

*hands him a drool bucket* Now I know what really gets you all hot and bothered.

The car is my brothers. He got it on November 15th. I don't really know about the specs so maybe he'll say something. I've ridden in it three times and I will say it's fast.
