Requesting advice about a new car purchase

Postby Gregory on Sun Feb 28, 2010 2:22 pm

I never liked cars but I know I need one. My 1993 Chevy Lumina is fastly approaching it's end. No one wants to dare work on it as any repair work exceeds the value of the car and fixing one thing can lead to many things. I've had little sucess at dealer lots finding what I need but I haven't done alot of looking as I've been dealing with a very difficult migrane headache the past couple of days.

So, here's what I'm after.

A 4-door sedan that is automatic transmission, AC, and no center console between the seats so I can have extra leg room, I prefer to have the shifter in the steering column.

The Cheeper the better. Performance isn't a factor.

Considering I've never owned a vehicle nor do I drive much I've no advice. Sorry.

I thought your health was doing better. Hope your headache has gone away by now.

Have you tried looking through your local craigslist?

I'd also recommend going through autotrader.com, although that's more for newer cars...

If you were in AZ we'd go to phoenix and head to the flea market. everyone's selling their cars there, and they're all awesome-- and cheap!

Moon: Cars suck. If there was another way i'd do that but commute by car is pretty much the only option here.

The road to recovery is not often an easy one. I'll get migraines now and again but they are few and far in between, no where near the severity they were at in my teens and twenties. Mentally i've never felt better, I just bought some new insoles for my feet...GEL ONES!...so yeah i've been doing the whole "I'm gewwen like a fewwon" in the cutest voice I can muster over and over to bring chaos to the house hold.

Daniel: Hey, you and me both. The cars down south are in much better condition than up here. The salt kills the cars here. Can't last 5 years without turning into rust. Most people in Wisconsin who can afford two cars have one just for the winter months here. Usually a beater car or a 4x4. Don't be surprised if a raccoon visits your hood someday...Bonnie's very interested in visiting the hotter states..possibly moving to one too.

I'm still looking. I went to Ford, hoo boy...talk about steep..Fords are out.

Ofcourse, if there was ever a car that I actually wanted to own, it's this one:

And since now they are being re-made, I might have one someday.

Update: I have purchased a car. It's a 2007 Kia Sportage. It's blue, it's a bit bigger than a Lumina, and it's fun. I'd go over the epic details but it's boring. heh.

Couldn't agree with you more! Smart-assery aside, congratulations. No photos? Not that I'm one to talk there.
